Is it possible to get a Free VPS ? 2020

Getting a free vps in 2020 is not easy as it used to be 5-6 years ago. Those old days there were do many free vps providers. Today I see only one which has survived from those old times. Rest of them are long gone. Even some of those providers which I believed would last much longer vanished. Well they didn't just vanished like most of the minor free vps providers but announced their closer and shut down the service.

It's not that easy to run a Free VPS service. It's lot easy to provide free shared hosting but Servers are a whole different story. You can get just one VPS and provide 100's of free shared hosting accounts. But that doesn't work same way for servers. First of all each VPS needs a unique IP Address. These cost at least 1 usd per month. So provider offer 50 servers that cost at least 50 usd per month minimum. Also there are other costs like for dedicate server. So it rarely a sustainable service.

Only way to have a sustainable and long running free VPS service is finding sponsors for that. VPS providers who could offer couple of free servers and in returning getting more exposure for their brand names. Banner Ads and a backlink from user websites.

Even this becoming not easy since smaller web hosting providers finding it harder and harder to complete with big hosting companies. Smaller providers getting thrown out of the market since they have hard time offering competitive prices and keep the business floating.

So Today, Only Free VPS Provider out there which has been around for a while is Post4VPS.com which has been doing quite well. They do offer dozen or so servers in monthly give aways. There are several requirements, Once you complete those you can apply for a VPS. If you are lucky enough to win one from the give away you need to make 20 quality posts per month in their forum.

It's a pretty good offer since there are many good servers. YOu can get VPS from 4GB / 8GB to smaller servers with 1GB or less. There are servers from many locations too. Most of these VPS use SSD space. Maybe let you run game servers.

It's quite a far deal getting a server which would cost you at least 5 usd per month just for 20 posts in a forum. How hard it is to make 20 posts in 30 days? So anyone who wants to have free vps should check the site.

How to Get a Free VPS

In 2007 I have started this Manga related forum with a friend of mine. This forum has become hyper active in couple of months so we were kicked out of  the free shared hosting service we were using. After that we used half dozen of web hosting services till we had a 2 year stint at Godaddy Hosting. Anyway at end we had to get a VPS but it was really expensive choice those days. 128MB RAM VPS would cost around $5 but these providers didn't last long. They always vanished and we had to use another provider again and again. This happened still we found Knownhost where we had to buy a 1GB VPS + cPanel/WHM for around $35 per month. They are the best service I have ever used and we still use them ever since.

But today you don't need to spend that much for a vps. There are insanly cheap cloud vps packages and even 2GB RAM vps with ssd can be bought for around $5 per month. If you don't have way to pay then there are are even free vps service providers. They offer you server in exchange of staying active in their forums. Post for Hosting has been around for ages but offering vps servers have started only couple of years ago.

Freevps.us is the best free vps provider out there and there is no contest for that. They have service which they rented by them selves and also servers sponsored by various VPS providers. They do hold a give away every month where more than 20  vps offered. Cost is creating 15 posts in every month in exchange using the server. I have been using them for over 3 year now and have had server for 2 years.

Post4VPS.com is another similar service which has founded quite recently. But they are slowly growing and increasing their pool of servers. You need to make 20 posts per month to keep a vps.

There are several more sites like these but I can recommend only these two since I used both. I wish we had these free vps offers when we were struggling with that forum I told about.

FreeVPS.us Review

Five years ago when I bought the first vps there weren't any legit free vps providers or anyone who give something really working. Those days 128MB vps cost me around $5 and even it was not a stable one. For years I thought free vps something not real. Those fake vps sites like Jelly3, Jelly5 didn't help it either. It was only 2 years old I discovered freevps.us. I was skeptical at begin but there there were so many members who had vps in forum my doubts cleared.

It looks like they have been around for 5 years !! At the moment they are the market leader in Free vps niche. Simply no other site can complete with them. They have dozen or more sponsors and also they give away vps funded by them selves. 

Their Requirements are simple. You need to have 30 posts at least. 55+ in their special score. It's kind of point system. So sometimes you might need more than 30 posts to reach this minimum score. or you might reach it even with less. All depends on how long your posts and reputation points you receive from others.

Every month they have a giveaway and you can apply for vps when this happen. There are vps from different locations, different specs and different providers. If you already have a free vps but want give it back get a different one then you can do that too.

Right now I have a free vps with 1GB RAM and 50GB space. It's from Hostigation. It's not a freevps.us sponsor. All vps from them are funded by the forum. Support is provided by forum staff, you can't directly contact the vps provider. But Staff members are friendly and experienced with vps related matters.

5Jelly and Hostinger

Just like I thought 5Jelly and 3Jelly free vps sites are also projects of  Hostinger Web hosting company which is also owns infamous YouHosting and freevps.me sites. Someone joined under my referrals and he has receive another free offer from Hostinger.co.uk out of nowhere so we can safely assume everyone use same contact detail data base.

It's same layout and control panel just different free sub domains. But I have to admit their new control panel and options look neat. You can forget about free vps accounts because it won't happen but their free shared hosting accounts seems pretty good. Maybe it's too early to say since I do have ugly previous experience with them. But I have to read more and find out how their free hosting account works because last time they deleted my account for lack of referrals.  I had no idea we needed keep having referrals to keep the account alive. I wonder if it's same still. Another thing is their support service is terrible or at least it used to be. Maybe now things are better.

VPS.me Review

In short it's a total waste of time. They suspended it even I could run it for 48 hours and only once logged into server and didn't have time even to run a Benchmark test. Ah I have to mention this happened a while back when they started the this free vps service. I thought to write about this because yesterday I found few interested forum posts where few members mentioned about vps.com and their experience with it.

Lets start with something someone posted at bit-tech.net forums. I thought it's better post the whole post so check this, (source)

Long version - apparently I needed to verify my mobile number. On adding my mobile number, I got an error, so I tried to contact their support, only to find that none of the links on the website work. I then call the UK number on their contact page (a UK mobile number), only to be told by the person that answered that I'd got the wrong number. I read it back and confirmed it was the right number.

I then tried looking up the WHOIS data for their domain, tracked it to hostinger.com who provide webhosting, then to hosting24.com who seem to provide their back-end servers. Talked to someone from their support who said they had no knowledge of vps.me.

So you can see from that post and any other vps.me reviews you can find on Google their contact details are pretty useless and phone numbers might be even fake.

Seems vps.me is run by Hostinger.com, Same company which owns and runs the infamous free hosting provider Youhosting.com. Since this one is one of their projects you can safely assume it not something good for anyone who looking for good free vps.

There were another couple of forum posts where people talking about if vps.me is just a personal data collector. (Link)  and (Link). Another person who has save problem I had. But he was lucky enough to run few Benchmark tests to check the vps he got (Link).

I really don't know what kind of scam they are running or it's they just sux and a total waste But I can tell you if you are looking for a free vps then better look somewhere else. You are not gonna get anything from them and if you get a free node by any chance it won't last very long.

5jelly Free VPS Hosting Review

First I have to say I haven't received a free VPS from 5jelly host or that I believe it's really possible to offer a 1GB Ram VPS forever for 20 referrals. My KnownHost VPS has only 1.5GB RAM and I pay around $50 for that. There's only VPS provider who I believe offer really cheap VPS that's a 1GB RAM vps for only $20 year. Even that's was a promo offer so I don't talk about it or want to mention about the provider. 

Anyway 5Jelly says they offer 1GB RAM vps for free if you collect 20 referrals. I haven't heard anything good about them and everyone says 5Jelly is a just a big scam. It seems they run a network of this type of sites which offer free vps. Here's some of those sites,

I wonder if these guys are part of YouHosting because layout, control panels and everything looks pretty much same. Only difference is YouHosting has active forum and seems paid customers too. These 5Jelly, 3Jelly, Yocats provider seems to have none.

I have to admit one thing. Their free shard hosting which you get when you register is really good. I haven't seen any downtime and sites load pretty fast. I installed a Wordpress on their free subdomain using script installer in their control panels and everything worked smoothly. I don't know how long they will last but if you are looking for good free hosting provider then you might want to try them. They don't but Ads and they let you host TLDs too. What I want to find is if we need to collect referrals to keep this account alive too or not. At YouHosting you need referrals to keep your free hosting account.

I use the blog I made there for my T2 black links to other sites. I think it's really great way to get some back links to your main web sites. All you have to do is point some low quality back links to your 5jelly blog, stuff like social bookmarks, Wiki links and profiles links. 5jelly might not be useful as a free vps provider but their shared hosting is not bad.

Mail from YouHosting

It's being over a month since I was told by Youhosting my account is canceled due to "no clients". Okey it was my mistake coz I didn't realized they give you free hosting to get other free and paid client for them. I checked their support and but I got get answer from their forum long before support responded. So I moved on. well I had already decided not to use it before Most of US, Canada and UK ISP providers have blocked their IP ranges. No point of having a commercial site hosting in a Hosting service which banned from all main markets. So thank you but I don't need it. I moved on.

Today I received another mail from YouHosting. 

Your hosting account has been canceled. Details of the account are below:

Hosting Plan: Default
Domain: xxxx
Reason: Abuse
Additional information: YouHosting.com account was suspended for more than 4 weeks.

Please contact us if you have any questions or requests.

So it seems they have canceled my account due to Abuse. Domain name is hosted in better hosting provider over a month so this letter must be from past. Also it's just a Wordpress blog with very little content and zero traffic. They do have an interesting automated mail system. 

I'm not saying YouHosting is a scam but I can tell you 100% confidently that they are a huge pain in back. One headache after another, just trouble after trouble. Also they are very good at throwing the blame at you whatever the problem. Sometimes even for hilarious stuff like you might not have a single site hosting but still they would blame you for abusing SQL Server. So whover decide to use them, good luck with that !

YouHosting.com Review

Youhosting.com is a free and paid reseller hosting provider. All I see is negative reviews about this web hosting provider so I just wanted to try them out see if these negative reviews are true or not. Well if you want the short version. Yep YouHosting.com sux. Most of those negative reviews are truth. They probably have over 1000 users and there has to be few survivors but rest are not so fortunate. I created an account there are kept it for 3 months. So these are what I have found. Oh they have a forum too. You can find lots of interesting stuff about them there from pissed off users.

• YouHosting.com is a reseller hosting provider. Free or Paid. So keep your account there you must find 10 clients under you with in 3 months or less. If not you will be suspended and kicked out.


• They have the right to send mails to your Clients. Seems it's in their TOS so not much you can do about that if you willing to signup. They do send hosting offer mails to your clients time to time.


• Technical support is not so great. You can forget about the ticket system. Post it in their forum and you will get some help from other members. Like every other forum it has some good people willing to help. But there is a limit what they can do nothing related to account.


• Some ISP providers in USA, Canada and UK have blocked YouHosting.com servers. So if you are into affiliate or have paid clients, this going to be a huge problem. This is one huge turn off for me. Free or Paid if you loose your main market what's the point of hosting. There is thread dedicated to this in their forum. (Link)


• If they have technical problems the some time their throw the fault at you. For example I installed a WP blog there.  no plugings and just one post. I got a mail after few weeks telling I'm executing a slow MySQL queries.


• Also there are other limitations like 300 unique visits per day and max amount of my sql queries per day etc.

Well the bottom line is try your luck at your own risk. If you just need a free hosting provider to hosting your web site or sites then this is not the place for you. This might go for their resellers too since if they suspend the reseller account yours will be gone too. YouHosting.com is a pretty bad provider and there aren't much good about them to tell.

iWebs.ws powered by iWeb.com ?

This question was asked by a friend one mine. iWebs.ws free hosting service is one with way too many negative reviews because of their shady business tactics. Users sites get popups in every page and then some times just redirect to other sites. But They are not same company I'm 99%.  iWebs.com looks like a professional hosting company. I checked the domain whoIs which is legit and open. no hidden stuff.

iWebs.ws probably is a reseller of YouHosting. Nothing wrong with that company but there way too many inexperience resellers try to run free hosting and paid hosting companies using YouHosting. And their servers are little too overloaded always.

Having similar names can be bad sometimes like in this case. People have no idea but they just make connections since names look alike. Also abusing users is something work bad for free hosting too because people think twice even before using really good free hosting providers.

FriHost - Best Free Web Hosting Service

I use free web hosting for various reasons. Mainly for Search Engine Optimization. I like to have my  second level sites spread out in different ip addresses. This way I can link those to my main sites without a problem and also All sites won't go out of action if my servers having down time. Also I used those to get web 2.0 properties with free sub domains usually free hosting providers offer. There aren't many great free web hosting services but there are few gems which you can use. Biggest problem is finding providers who would last long term not those who start a free hosting service without a plan or goal.

FriHost.com is my favorite free web hosting service. I  believe they are the best free web hosting service in market today.  I joined them in early 2006 and I had join bunch of free hosting sites same time. When I first joined I received 250 MB space and 10 GB bandwidth But Now you get lot more than that ! FriHost offer 1500 MB of disk space, 35 GB of traffic, A free sub-domain, Unlimited addon domains and sub-domains, Php, perl, python, cgi, ssi and other scripting languages, Unlimited MySQL databases, Ftp access, Unlimited email accounts, cPanel or DirectAdmin control panel. It just like a normal shared web hosting account. You won't see big difference.

You get support from forum and this is better and faster than a usual ticket system. You get answers from both staff and other members so you don't need to wait long for a response. Uptime is very good too I haven't noticed any long down-times for years now. There was a week long down time several years back due to DDOS attack but nothing  after that. They use several VPS not just one server so not everyone experience downtime if something happens. I'm in a service which uses Direct Admin panel. first I was not happy but now I'm used to it and like it.

 The biggest reason why I like FriHost is their reliability. They have a plan how to make an income. They use forum advertisements as well as paid hosting to cover costs and keep the service running. They don't offer crazy amounts of resources so their free web hosting plans are realistic and practical. They have good set of rules and good group of staff members to keep things running smoothly. So basically they do run their free web hosting service just like a paid shared hosting service. This is have Frihost has been around for 8 years in this highly competitive web hosting market. So again I can say they are the best free web hosting service in the block today.

Well I wonder if I talked about this before but Free Web Hosting is one topic which you will find in every single webmaster forum. Most people say Free web hosting sux and some say it's fine and Others would argue it's great. Everyone's right but I think my opinion is free web hosting can be helpful to everyone who work online. There are good free hosting providers and there are bad free hosting providers. You need to find the right free host for your need. Also not for all web sites you can use free hosting.  Only for small and new sites free web hosting is good. or when you want to make some Web 2.0 properties for SEO use.

If you have just started your online career then you can start with a free hosting. But even before than first it's better Start from place like Blogger.com. Where you wouldn't need a domain name or Web hosting. Also you don't need to know any HTML. You can start your first web static web site on a free web hosting service. These days you can buy a domain name for less than 5 USD and most of the time you can find these for around $1 at Godaddy and few other places. So when you get your first domain you can host it at a free hosting service before move to a paid web hosting provider.

Why not using a cheap web hosting provider ? Well if your site is brand new and not earning anything you will be paying for hosting from your pocket. Maybe it's a good investment but not really necessary thing. Specially if you are going to use a unknown cheap web hosting provider because it won't be must different. Two very good free hosting providers are Frihost and Free Hostia. I FriHost is my favorite and I have used it since 2006 ! I still do have web sites hosted there. They are a post to host type free hosting provider. Means you have to stay active in their forum to keep your web hosting account. It's not hard since it's a big general forum where you can talk about anything from politics, movies , hobbies to webmaster related topics. Also only u need to do is earn 30 forum points. You can do that with 10 posts. They give you 1.5 GB space, 35 GB of traffic, A free sub-domain, Unlimited domains and sub-domains, Unlimited MySQL databases, Ftp access, cPanel or DirectAdmin control panel ! No forced ads on your sites ! Like I said it's just like a cheap shared hosting provider but with lot better forum based support. I have been with them for 7 years ! Not even most of cheap web hosting services can last that long.

The most important thing about a free web hosting provider is you need to find one who has lasted long and hosting providers who have a good plan to cover their costs. Unless they can earn back what they spend for servers they can't last long. This is what happens to most of free hosting providers. They offer crazy amount of resources to their users but have no solid plan to earn money from it. FriHost is a great example for how to run a good free web hosting service.

Free Web Hosting VS Cheap Web Hosting

I have seen many just react like they heard about devil when someone ask if free web hosting is good or not. Usually when this question is asked in forums everyone jump into chant Free Hosting is terrible and only Paid hosting rules. So many Cheap Hosting Services and Free Hosting Services. I know When it comes to Free web Hosting VS Cheap Web Hosting many of you will just recommend cheap web hosting is better than free web hosting. This is the common believe. But does that have any truth in it ? Free Web Hosting is that scary as everything tell ?  I have used every type of Hosting by now except for dedicated servers. and I think Free Web hosting is good as cheap web hosting, as long as for what you are going to use it. Lets see how these 2 services match.

Support is the common problem for both free hosting and cheap hosting. Owners can't offer you top notch support like one of those high-end hosting providers willing to offer. If provider give you the service for free or for just one $1-$3 per month How can they offer such good support ? they simply can't. Users should understand this and also providers should clearly state this in their web site. What you get is what you paid for.  I think Support forum is a great way for both free and cheap hosting providers. There members can help each other in most of causes like when some newbie ask about how to use cPanel to add a domain or for things like these. It can save great deal of time for both parties than going through support tickets.

Another common problem is Uptime. Free and Cheap hosting services often get down times mainly because users try to abuse these services. They would try to use those resource eating scripts or sending spam emails still servers get over loaded or suspend by the network provider whoever at top of the hosting food chain. So it's important for providers to make sure your servers won't get abused or when you find someone do, you have to take action fast. There are very good free web hosting services like FriHost,com. They provide post to host type service and its very easy to keep your account. All you have to do is make bunch of posts in their forum and you can then forget about it for a month or so. They do provide good support too (forum based). There are other free hosting providers like Free Hostia and 000webhost. These guys are good too much maybe support won't be that fast. and they have loads of more restrictions. FriHost and Free Hostia has very little downtime.

Some good thing about Cheap Hosting is almost every cheap web hosting provider offer cPanel as control panel. Not many Free web Hosting providers can do that (FriHost does). This is one big advantage cheap web hosting has over free hosting. But again most hosting panels are easy to use and have all same features and options.

Free Web Hosting is great for static sites. Specially those new sites with little traffic. They usually have lots of PHP and Apache restrictions so it's hard to run WordPress with plugins. You will get better chance for Blogs with Cheap web hosting. But You should not run forums in both these type of hosting services. They can't handle forums. You won't have nice ending there. So you need to think practically before hosting sites in these places. Always chose right site for right hosting service. Don't expect a lot from something you get from free or cheap. If you want better service then pay more and go for better provider.

This is my opinion on Free Web Hosting VS Cheap Web Hosting. Both these services are good as long as you know for what you should use those. Only way to find out a good hosting service is trying those out. It's same free , cheap or high-end services.
